WARNING! SPOILERS ahead for FBI: Most Wanted season 6, episode 22, "The Circle Game."
FBI: Most Wanted season 6, episode 22, "The Circle Game," left some questions unanswered despite wrapping up the series. FBI: Most Wanted was a character-driven spinoff of FBI, which often blended characters' personal lives with the case they were working on. Unfortunately, the spinoff was one of the shows CBS canceled in 2025, so "The Circle Game" needed to wrap up every character's story as well as offer one final case for the Fugitive Task Force to solve together.
FBI: Most Wanted season 6 set up several plot threads that were resolved perfectly in the finale. Most notably, Remy (Dylan McDermott) announced his retirement and that Sheryll Barnes (Roxy Sternberg) would be taking his place as the new leader of the Fugitive Task Force. Each of the other characters also wrapped up their stories during the final minutes of the hour. This led to a satisfying wrap-up for the series, but some questions were left unanswered after the credits rolled.
8 What Happened to Barnes' Other Job Opportunity?
It Seemed To Evaporate In Favor Of Her Leading The Fugitive Task Force
Barnes becoming the new team leader was FBI: Most Wanted's perfect ending, and there had been widespread speculation that the procedural would end in this manner. Although Barnes sometimes butted heads with Remy, her determination to save victims and investigative abilities made her a good fit for this role. However, throughout most of the final season, Barnes was working toward taking a job in DC as a team leader, so it was confusing that she suddenly was staying in New York instead. Barnes' DC job was likely planned before the cancellation, which would explain why it was abruptly dropped.
This sudden change in direction allowed the procedural to set up a red herring in which Remy and Barnes' discussion in his office seemed to be about her decision to take the DC job, but actually was about Remy exploring whether she wanted to become the new head of the Fugitive Task Force. That said, it was not explained on-screen what happened to the other job opportunity, though it's likely Barnes withdrew her name from consideration so that she could take the job with the Fugitive Task Force.
7 What Was The Fate of Jess La Croix's Daughter?
While Not Strictly Necessary, It Would Have Been Nice To Catch Up
Remy was the leader of the Fugitive Task Force throughout the second half of the series, but the LaCroix family was popular, and the decision to kill off Jess (Julian McMahon) was controversial because of it. Thus, while it wasn't necessary for plot purposes, it's disappointing that the finale made no reference to the original family, especially Jess' daughter, Tali, (Yaya Gosselin), who had originally been a pre-teen who butted heads with her father.
Technically, Tali's storyline was wrapped up in 2022 when she decided to attend boarding school in Canada to be closer to her maternal grandparents. However, she should be about 17 years old now and close to graduating from high school, putting her in a different stage of life than she was in when she left. Additionally, it would have made the finale even more satisfying for Tali to return briefly, as this cameo appearance would have honored the family that was central to the first three seasons of the series.
6 Will Remy Be Able to Resist Jumping Back Into Investigative Work?
He Might Find It Difficult To Resist Offering Advice Or Help With Difficult Cases
Remy's retirement wraps up his story, but that doesn't mean his association with the FBI is completely over. Although Remy's next chapter is supposed to include running a restaurant with his girlfriend, Abby (Susan Misner), and spending time with her, he might find it difficult to walk away completely. Many police dramas utilized retired personnel as consultants, and it would have been unsurprising for Remy to take this type of role, especially if a case was particularly challenging.
He might have aggravated Barnes by offering unsolicited advice based on his experience or annoyed Abby by not completely breaking ties with the FBI so that he could focus on their relationship and life together. However, the series ended with Remy's announcement, so it is left to the imagination whether he is able to resist consulting on any of Barnes' cases.
5 Do Hana and Ethan Really Have A Future?
Hana's Comment About His Dog Might Not Have Been A Joke
Ethan was a recurring character in the FBI: Most Wanted season 6 cast after Hana met him on a plane at the end of season 5. At first, she seemed reluctant to move forward with the relationship for unclear reasons, but it was eventually revealed that Ethan was addicted to opioids and that this problem was interfering with their relationship. Ethan was written out after helping protect Hana during a hostage situation at the VA, where he was trying to get help with his addiction. He went to rehab and was not mentioned again until the finale.
That said, Hana's announcement that she was moving in with Ethan at the end of FBI: Most Wanted season 6, episode 22 was underwhelming. She followed up her news by asking, "Is it bad I'm more excited about seeing his dog than the man?" Everyone laughed, suggesting this was a joke. However, this comment pointed to the underlying problem with this relationship: Hana was always more invested in Ethan's dog than in Ethan. Thus, it's unclear if this couple really has much of a future despite the positive news about their new living arrangement.
4 Will Barnes Share Nina With The NY Field Office If Needed?
Nina Has Gone Back And Forth Several Times
Nina (Shantel Van Santen) originally worked for the New York Field Office. She occasionally appears in FBI, as she is in a relationship with Scola (John Boyd). Nina and Scola try to avoid working for the same branch of the FBI whenever possible, as they have a young son. However, Nina has occasionally filled in when no one else was available or consulted with Jubal on a case. That said, it's an open question whether this arrangement will continue under Barnes' leadership.
There is no real reason for Barnes to forbid this arrangement, unless Nina is needed for a case elsewhere when Jubal wants her input. FBI season 8 is going ahead, so this is one question that may be answered next year.
3 How Will The Team Look Different Under Barnes' Leadership?
Her Style May Be Very Different
It's exciting that Barnes is taking over the leadership of the Fugitive Task Force, but it's unfortunate that it happened in the series finale. While it made sense as an ending for FBI: Most Wanted, it also cheats the audience out of getting to see how Barnes' leadership style is different from Remy's and what the team looks like now that she is the top position. Barnes and Remy butted heads in an early episode of FBI: Most Wanted season 6 when she wanted to find and rescue a girl who had been kidnapped and forced to make scam calls.
Remy didn't think this case was worth the Fugitive Task Force's efforts and was annoyed that Barnes recruited Hana to investigate behind his back. This story demonstrated that Barnes and Remy had slightly different values when it came to deciding which cases are important enough to take. It would have been interesting to find out how Barnes would handle a similar situation as the team leader.
2 Will Any FBI: Most Wanted Characters Cross Over With FBI?
Nina Is The Most Likely, But There Is Room For Cameo Appearances
FBI is now the only one of the original three series in the franchise to remain on the air, which means that there may be opportunities for crossover appearances or cameos despite FBI: Most Wanted no longer being on the air. Nina is the most likely person to do this, as the franchise has already established her as a character who occasionally crosses over to FBI and has a connection there through Scola. However, it's also possible that other characters will cross over, but there have been no announcements yet about whether this will happen.
However, characters such as Barnes or Hana might appear occasionally to consult on a joint case or to provide information about a fugitive that FBI's New York Field Office is searching for.
1 Will Any Most Wanted Characters Join The CIA Spinoff?
No Casting Decisions Have Been Made Yet
Very little is known about the CIA spinoff that will air in the fall, other than that it stars Tom Ellison and is about the CIA. Since nobody quit the Fugitive Task Force, it's unlikely that any character will become a permanent part of CIA's cast. However, it is conceivable that the characters from FBI: Most Wanted will need to consult with the CIA from time to time, especially if a fugitive whose case they worked on has ties to international espionage.
That said, it's far more likely for there to be cameos from FBI: International than FBI: Most Wanted, as the Fly Team deals with international criminals and the CIA handles espionage cases that may be tied to international crimes. However, since the Fugitive Task Force's final case involved rogue government agents who were colluding with foreign adversaries, that foreshadows potential involvement with CIA in the future.
