Bad news has been revealed for fans of the FBI franchise. Not one, but two franchise shows have just been canceled, though hope remains for another spinoff series.
Per TV Line, FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International have both been canceled by CBS. Neither show will be coming back for the 2025-26 season, putting an effective end to both shows after the end of their current seasons. FBI: Most Wanted is currently in production on its sixth season, while FBI: International is in production on Season 4. With both shows getting canceled at this point, there is time for the creative teams to prepare for having the season finales now serve as series finales without ending on major cliffhangers.
Some fans may have been expecting the unfortunate update after the shows were not named as part of a surge of renewals the network had recently given out to other shows on the network, including all three NCIS franchise shows. Ghosts also scored a two-season renewal, with the fan favorite series Fire Country also getting renewed. There are still a handful of other series with renewal fates yet to be revealed, including S.W.A.T., The Equalizer, Watson, Poppa's House, and Neighborhood.
FBI Will Continue, For Now, With Another Spinoff in the Mix
Fans will still be able to watch the main series. FBI was previously given a three-season renewal that guaranteed its spot on CBS until at least Season 9 in 2027. In other good news for the franchise, there are still plans to move forward with FBI: CIA, another spinoff series set in the FBI universe. As the title would suggest, that series will see an FBI agent team up with a CIA agent as part of a new task force taking on domestic terrorism in the New York area. The series is in early development and no cast members have been announced at this time.
FBI: Most Wanted debuted on CBS in 2020. The FBI offshoot focuses on the work of the FBI's New York Fugitive Task Force, and it currently stars Roxy Sternberg, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Dylan McDermott, Edwin Hodge, and Shantel VanSanten. The most averages 6.5 million viewers, which is a 10% decline from the previous season, though FBI: Most Wanted still ranked as the No.10 most-watched returning drama for last TV's broadcast season.
FBI: International would make its premiere on the network in 2021, serving as the second spinoff of the FBI universe. The show focused on the members of the FBI's international "Fly Team" headquartered in Budapest. The spinoff stars Vinessa Vidotto, Carter Redwood, Eva-Jane Willis, Christina Wolfe, Jesse Lee Soffer, and Green the dog. The series averages 6.3 million viewers, which similarly is down by the tune of 10% compared to Season 3.
