‘FBI’ Deaths That Left Us Gutted—From Maggie’s Near Death to Hobbs’s Final Scene

From deadly gas leaks to fatal shootings, the agents on CBS’s FBI are constantly thrown into life-or-death situations—and some don’t survive. Over the years, the series has delivered some of the most heartbreaking losses and intense near-death scenes on TV. Below, we’re remembering the saddest deaths on FBI and the close calls that left us holding our breath.

A drone explosion stopped Maggie Bell’s heart in Season 7

Maggie Bell has been through the ringer in her seven seasons on FBI and she just had another near-death experience on the most recent episode. Maggie and the team spent Season 7 episode 20 investigating drone explosions, which killed two major CEO’s in under 24 hours. Of course, everything bad comes in threes, so Maggie and the team had to figure out where the third explosion would take place.

When they learned an innocent girl was in danger, Maggie and her partner, OA, tried to get the girl to safety, but were inches away from the explosion. Fans were on the edge of their seats when it was shown that Maggie had been knocked out by the explosion, stopping her heart for a few minutes. While OA did CPR on his partner, we waited to see if she would make it, which she did. But it was possibly the most tense near-death scene we’ve ever witnessed.

Maggie Bell’s near-fatal exposure in Season 4

As the main character of FBI for nearly seven years, Maggie Bell (Missy Peregrym) has been through quite a few tough situations, including a very dangerous near-death experience. During Season 4, Episode 18, titled “Fear Nothing,” Maggie and the team discover a deadly gas is being sold to a group of terrorists.

While trying to determine the specifics of who is selling the weapon, she encounters a vial of the substance and is trapped in a room where it is released. As Maggie is exposed to the gas, she passes out, almost dying, as her partner, OA (Zeeko Zaki), desperately tries to get her to safety.

The entire scene is extremely nail-biting and has viewers waiting with bated breath to learn if Maggie will make it. She eventually does, but her character has to remain in the hospital for physical therapy.

In real life, Missy Peregrym was about to welcome her second child and needed a reason to be absent from the show for an extended period as she went on maternity leave, hence her departure from the end of Season 4 and early Season 5.

Stuart Scola’s stabbing and emotional goodbye

In the premiere of Season 7, fans saw a particularly intense episode as Tiffany Wallace (Katherine Renee Kane) was making her departure and her partner, Stuart Scola (John Boyd), was nearly killed.

During an investigation of a terrorist group, Scola was attacked and stabbed in the thigh, a wound that could have proven fatal. As audiences were on the edge of their seats wondering if Scola would make it, they had to believe if it could be the last episode for both characters.

As things played out, the team had backup ready and Scola was saved. He had to recover in the hospital for a bit and cope with the fact that his partner was leaving, so the episode was fairly emotional.

Nina Chase’s crossfire trauma and baby scare

In a crossover episode between FBI and FBI: International, fans nearly saw the end of Nina Chase (Shantel Van Santen). In the first hour, which was the FBI: International episode, Nina and her team were storming a home in Italy where a terrorist group was holding up, but she was caught in the crossfire and ended up getting shot. At the time, Nina was pregnant with Stuart Scola’s child, so the storyline continued into an episode of FBI, where Scola’s superiors had to decide whether to tell him about his pregnant girlfriend.

While Nina’s life hung in the balance, Jubal (Jeremy Sisto) and Isobel (Alana de la Garza) chose not to inform Scola of her condition in hopes of saving countless lives while he continued the mission. Luckily, both Nina and her unborn child were okay, and they recovered just as Scola was able to get to her.

OA’s girlfriend Gemma narrowly survives a hostage crisis

Gemma Brooks (Comfort Clinton), who is dating OA (Zeeko Zaki) on the series, was shot in a Season 7 episode. While the two were headed to Niagara Falls on a weekend trip, their train was taken hostage.

But while OA had EMT training and could have saved her, he was restrained and only able to assist by telling a civilian what to do. She and the rest of passengers made it off the train after OA made a deal with the hostage-takers, narrowly avoiding death.

The death of Trevor Hobbs and its fallout

Although he wasn’t a long-term character on the series, the death of Trevor Hobbs (Roshawn Franklin) was an impactful one. Hobbs is partnered with Tiffany Wallace on an undercover operation in the premiere of Season 6, trying to catch someone who had put a bomb on a bus filled with passengers.

Tiffany encouraged Hobbs to follow the suspect into a bathroom and inspect the situation, but the terrorist he was following was onto him. He shot Hobbs there, leaving him for Tiffany to find. She was unable to help.

The death of Hobbs deeply impacted Tiffany, as the two had become close friends during their partnership. The fallout of death eventually pushed her to leave the show during the Season 7 premiere.
