Tom Cavanagh cemented himself as one of the key elements in The Flash’s success throughout its 9-season run. Now, the actor is making his way to the CBS procedural, FBI, as a major character’s spouse.
Per TV Line, Cavanagh has been cast as Special Agent in Charge Isobel Castille’s husband, Phillip. Isobel Castille is played by Alana de la Garza, who is a crime procedural veteran, having appeared in four seasons of Law & Order as well as its spinoffs like Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, as well as CSI: Miami as Horatio Caine’s wife. Fans, and even some of the show’s cast, didn’t know that her character had a husband, so the casting news came as a big surprise to all.
Cavanagh spent nearly a decade playing a variety of roles on the most popular of The CW’s Arrowverse lineup. Really, they are all versions of the same character. He played Earth-1’s Harrison Wells, Eobard Thawne/Reverse Flash – who steals Earth-1 Harrison Wells’ identity, Earth 2’s "Harry" Wells, and every other alternative reality version of the character, including all the members of the "Council of Wells." Cavanagh’s characters have ranged from mentors to antagonists to comedic relief, allowing him to demonstrate the breadth of his acting prowess.
Tom Cavanagh Starred in The Flash
Aside from Cavanagh, the cast of The Flash included Grant Gustin as the Scarlet Speedster, Candice Patton as Iris West – later Iris West-Allen, Jesse L. Martin as Detective Joe West, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost, Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon/Vibe, and more. The Flash was consistently one of The CW’s most successful series, frequently crossing over with other superhero shows like Arrow, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow. The series ran from 2014 to 2023, and remains –largely – beloved by fans since it's seen as one of the best live-action superhero TV adaptations.
FBI has been airing on CBS since 2018 and is the brainchild of crime procedural king Dick Wolf, the man behind Law & Order, as well as the One Chicago franchise –which includes Chicago Med, Chicago P.D., Chicago Justice, and Chicago Fire. The series follows the inner workings of the FBI's New York office as its agents endeavor to keep New York, and the country, safe. Zeeko Zaki plays Special Agent Omar Adom "OA" Zidan, while Missy Peregryn portrays his partner-in-solving-crime Specia Agent Maggie Bell. Sela Ward plays Dana Mosier, the Special Agent in Charge (in Season 1 until de la Garza's character inherited the role), with Jeremy Sisto as Assistant Special Agent in Charge Jubal Valentine. Ebonée Noel, John Boyd, Katherine Renee Kane, and Lisette Olivera round out the main cast.
It is not yet clear when Cavanagh will be joining the series, but in the meantime, new episodes of FBI air on Wednesdays on CBS.
